Ordering, lending, loan period, fees Information on the change of the new library system
Changes for all users
- All notifications are sent exclusively by email.
- You will receive loan confirmations showing the relevant loan periods, as well as return and fee receipts, by email; paper receipts are no longer automatically printed at the service desks.
- Notifications regarding different processes are sent separately. For example, you will receive a separate email for advance reminders and another email when ordered items are ready for collection.
- The notification regarding orders ready for collection specifies the date by which the items must be collected.
- One opening day before the loan period expires, you will receive an additional reminder by email.
- You can cancel orders yourself via your user account.
- Items you have borrowed from the reading room are displayed in your user account under ‘Orders’ and not under ‘Loans’.
- Fees carried over from the switch to the new library system are shown as a total amount. New fees will in future be listed individually according to the respective overdue levels.
- Interlibrary loan fees are shown without title and interlibrary loan request number.
- Books can be requested and transferred between all lending libraries (Main Library Altstadt, the Neuenheim Branch Library, Bergheim Campus Library, and CATS Library).
- The loan period for journals will also be four weeks instead of the previous two weeks.
- You can activate your borrowing history yourself in “My Account". For data protection reasons, the borrowing history is disabled by default. Library staff do not have access to your borrowing history and cannot activate it on your behalf.
Changes affecting academic staff at Heidelberg University
- TANs are no longer required for interlibrary loan requests. The University Library will cover the costs of interlibrary loans in future. Any additional costs incurred must, as before, be paid for by the users themselves.
- For certain privileged user groups, loan periods will be automatically extended during the migration and, in some cases, afterwards. You will be notified of any automatic extension by email. This also applies to items that were previously renewed automatically; these may be automatically renewed once more as part of the transition.
- Only one email address can be stored in the account.
Changes for external users and students at the University of Education
- Your previous ID or user number has been replaced by a new user number. All users have been informed of this by email. If you have not received this message, please contact us by email at .
- To log in to the new library system, you will need to reset your password once. To do so, please contact us by email at or to the staff at the circulation desk the next time you visit the library. You can also use this method to request a reset of a forgotten password.
- A valid email address is required to log in to your library account. It is not possible to log in without an email address.
