Literature concerning the City of Heidelberg and the region

Graimberg, Carl von, Sammlung von Ansichten des Schlosses und der Stadt Heidelberg in Tuschmanier One of the focuses of the Heidelberg digitization efforts is to provide historical literature concerning Heidelberg and its region such as the Heidelberg Catechism, written in 1563 or letters by Elisabeth Charlotte (Lieselotte), Madame Palatine whose originals are part of the collections of Heidelberg University Library.

With the digitization of the Heidelberg Directories (Heidelberger Adreßbücher, 1839-1945) and the Heidelberg Chronicle (Chronik der Stadt Heidelberg, 1893-1914) we make to two of the main local sources concerning history, cultural life and economic activity of the City of Heidelberg and its region from the early 19th century to 1945 widely accessible. Thus we could prevent the progressing decay of the original volumes which were threatened by constant use and retain this unique source material for research on individual persons and town history.

Historical documents dealing with Heidelberg University are presented under “Sources concerning the history of Heidelberg University”.
