Abstract

Translation of abstract (English)

The topic of this thesis is the urbanistic appearance as well as the spatial and social distribution for the town of Heidelberg in the 17th century. Investigations are based on historical sources and archaeological excavation plans, which were analysed, evaluated, and finally processed by a geographical information system. Virtual three-dimensional reconstructions of destroyed or modified buildings were created to show what the historical town of Heidelberg looked and felt like. The outlined spatial and social distribution provides scientific proof of existing assumptions on the population distribution in the historical town of Heidelberg. In addition, new correlations were detected, such as how the distance from the castle influenced the residential areas of different social groups. Exact digital plans were created to trace roads, the sites of significant buildings, the positions of defences, etc. More than 20 three-dimensional models of no longer existing buildings were set up and designed such as to allow the observer to move freely within these models. The results of this thesis are represented intelligible to a general public in a specifically implemented internet portal. This internet portal includes a WebGIS that makes the plans interactive.
