Abstract

Biographien der Bischöfe von Speyer von 1200 bis 1272 mit ihren reichspolitischen Verflechtungen. Abgehandelt werden Konrad von Scharfenberg (1200-1224), Beringer von Entringen (1224-1232), Konrad von Thann (1233-1236), Konrad von Eberstein (1237-1245) und Heinrich von Leiningen (1245-1272). Breite Würdigung erfährt Konrad von Scharfenberg, "Diener dreier Herren", der sich, als enger Weggefährte und Vertrauter König Philipps von Schwaben, Kanzler Kaiser Ottos IV. und Kanzler und engster Berater Kaiser Friedrichs II., massiv in die Reichspolitik einschaltete. Während Beringer von Entringen und Konrad von Thann das Bistum Speyer nach innen konsolidierten, kam es unter Konrad von Eberstein zu einem politischen Paradigmenwechsel, weg vom Kaiser hin zum Papst. Heinrich von Leiningen, konsequenter Staufergegner, blieb ohne Fortune. Er war ehrgeizig und ambitioniert, scheiterte aber mit fast all seinen Vorhaben. Sowohl das angetrebte Amt des Metropoliten von Mainz wie das des Bischofs von Würzburg blieb ihm verwehrt.

Translation of abstract (English)

Biographies of the bishops of Speyer from 1200 to 1272 with their interdependence with the policy of the roman-german empire. Discussed are Konrad von Scharfenberg (1200-1224), Beringer von Entringen (1224-1232), Konrad von Thann (1233-1236), Konrad von Eberstein (1237-1245) and Heinrich von Leiningen (1245-1272). Broader description of Konrad von Scharfenberg, "servant of three masters", who strongly engaged himself in the politics of Germany and Italy, as attendant and confidant of King Philipp of Swabia, chancellor of emperor Otto IV. and chancellor and counselor of emperor Frederick II. Whereas Beringer von Entringen and Konrad von Thann consolidated the bishopric, under the rule of Konrad von Eberstein it came to a political change, away from the emperor towards the pope. Heinrich von Leiningen was ambitious but without fortune. He failed with nearly all of his projects, especially he never entered the throne of the archbishop of Mainz or the bishop of Würzburg, as he had hoped.
