Abstract

Enthält eine eingehende Würdigung der Verdienste Zallingers um die angewandte Mathematik. Franz Joseph ZALLINGER zum Thurn (nicht zu verwechseln mit seinem Zeitgenossen Jakob Anton Zallinger zum Thurn, der auch Mathematiker war), Professor der Mathematik und Physik am Lyceum in Innsbruck, wurde am 14. Februar 1743 in Bozen geboren und starb in Innsbruck am 2. Oktober 1828. Als Autor auf dem mathematischen Gebiete hat er sich mit der Elektrizitätslehre, der Meteorologie, der Kartographie und der Geodäsie, der Mechanik, sowie auch mit der Hydrologie beschäftigt. Er war einer der ersten, die die Thermoelektrizität der Krystalle näher untersuchten. (Rezension von Gustaf Eneström (1852-1923) im Jahrbuch über die Fortschritte der Mathematik, Band 33.1903)
