Extract from virtual tour round Heidelberg University LibraryAt the first floor of the University Library we offer facilities to use electronic and audiovisual media.
Students and staff of the University of Heidelberg are allowed to compile electronic documents. In the Multimedia Centre we provide network connection (Wireless LAN) for laptop users, too.
Please note our special library rules for the use of our computer facilities (§ 20 and §21 Benutzungsordnung).

Computer facilities
The following computer facilities and software are reserved to the students and staff of the University of Heidelberg only. All workstations are equipped with multimedia application software.
Available Software
- Text processing programs, spread-sheet, database management system, etc.: MS Office, OpenOffice
- Graphics: Adobe Photoshop

Reading and creating Portable Document Format (PDF):
Acrobat 6 - WWW/Internet: Mozilla, Internet Explorer
You can reserve a workstation for a maximum of three hours per day. Please use the possibility to reserve a workstation at the enquiry desk.
Good knowledge
of the offered application software is required. The superintending staff
can not help to compile or format texts or files e.g. Please visit the
training
courses in the Computing Centre of the University of Heidelberg.

Scanner facilities
For our patrons' use:
- Scanners to digitize microforms (digital reader-printer)
- flatbed scanners
- slide scanner (ektachrome, e.g.)
You can reserve a workstation for a maximum of two hours per day. Please use the possibility to reserve a workstation at the enquiry desk.
Videos and DVDs
Please, consult our electronic online catalogue HEIDI, use the video catalogue particularly for videos and dvds.Because of copyright reasons the usage of videos and dvds with copies from television transmissions is reserved to the students and staff of the University of Heidelberg. Students of the Heidelberg Teachers Training College, other institutions or private persons are not allowed to use those copies.
Students or staff
of the University of Heidelberg who want to use feature films have to confirm
their scientific or study-relevant interest in a personally delivered form
at the enquiry desk.
It is possible for lecturers to borrow
videos for classroom use on the campus.
You will get the form at the control desk or you can print it from our web sites:

Microforms
Heidelberg University Library holds a large collection of microforms. Among our holdings are newspapers and iconographic archives and microforms relating to the history of art.
In the Multimedia Centre we offer digital reader-printers to multiply, print or store the images on your USB-Stick or CD-ROM.
Laptop / Wireless LAN
To laptop users we provide internet access
in the whole area of our Multimedia Centre. Turn to the enquiry desk to
get the installation CD and a network interface card on loan. A library
card is required.
Please note: Only students and staff of
the University of Heidelberg have full internet access. All other users
of our library only can access the servers of Heidelberg University.
