Artists
In cooperation with the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich (Chair Prof. U. Pfisterer), books with portraits of artists from the holdings of the UB Heidelberg, the ZI Munich and from private collections are being digitised and put online - also with the support of the DFG.
The activities are in the context of two exhibitions at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich: "Platz da im Pantheon! Artists in Printed Portrait Series" took place in 2019. There, printed portraits of artists in portrait series up to 1800 were examined for the first time in an overall show. This ranges from the earliest woodcut portraits in books from the late 15th century onwards, through the numerous books of portraits from the 16th century onwards, to the English magazines published in large numbers from the end of the 18th century. In the exhibition "Pantheon and Boulevard. Artists in 19th century portrait series. Prints and Photography" in 2021 focused on the 19th century and the emergence of photographic portrait series.
