About the Specialized Information Service South Asia – FID4SA

Since January 2022, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) has been funding the Specialized Information Service South Asia - FID4SA as an independent FID South Asia within the framework of the funding programme "Specialised Information Services". Heidelberg University Library and the South Asia Institute of Heidelberg University with the CATS Library / South Asia Department are thus continuing the further development of information services for South Asia studies scholars. From 2016 to 2021, these were established in the FID Asia in cooperation with the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin.

Our services for South Asian Studies and Indology:

  1. Provision of information resources

The collection of printed and electronic media in the FID4SA is geared to inter- and transdisciplinary as well as transregional issues relating to the South Asian region. Due to the linguistic diversity of the South Asia region and the small print runs of publishing products, a proactive collection development is pursued in addition to demand-oriented acquisitions. In addition to a broad portfolio of electronic databases and bibliographies, a comprehensive e-book collection from various academic publishers is also available.

  2. FID4SA portal with country-specific views

All FID4SA services are brought together under one interface. The FID4SA portal structures the FID4SA services in a functional, material- and service-oriented way. Country-specific content becomes more visible through regional access to the offerings.

  3. Electronic Publishing in Open Access - Heidelberg Asian Studies Publishing (HASP)

With Heidelberg Asian Studies Publishing (HASP), the FID4SA supports Open Access as a publishing model for the dissemination of research results and free access to scholarly information. Asian studies scholars worldwide have the opportunity to publish their research results electronically in a timely manner and free of charge, thus increasing the visibility and impact of their publications.

  4. Sustainability for excellent specialised information

The intention of FID4SA is to sustainably secure selected projects of South Asian studies research at the latest technical level. In addition to the long-term archiving of research data, this also includes the creation of added value through the provision of searchable full texts of original language literature.

  5. Science Communication / Public Relations / Network

Communication with the scientific community and public relations are an essential part of our work. In training sessions on various topics - on-site or in online format - we present the FID4SA's offerings to students and researchers.
