Functions / Services

Heidelberg University Library is a public research university library (funding body: State of Baden-Württemberg) and the central library in the library system of the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg: Its task lies in providing all researchers and students at Heidelberg University as well as from other universities of Heidelberg (such as the Pädagogische Hochschule and the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien) and the inhabitants of the city and the region with literature and information. It participates in the German and international loan network and acts as the coordinating library within the regional interlibrary loan system.

The access to the reading rooms is free and does not require any prior formalities. For the full benefit of all services a student or staff ID card is required.
