Our Multimedia Centre on the first floor of the University Library offers access to computer workplaces where you can create and edit files and documents. There are also study desks for laptop users and access to Wi-Fi. We have facilities to use and edit electronic and audiovisual media such as slides, microfiches, microfilms and disc records.
Only students and staff of the University of Heidelberg have full internet access and are allowed to compile electronic documents. A valid library card is required.

Students and staff of the University of Heidelberg can log in to our computer workstations, which are equipped with multimedia application software. Your files can be saved on a USB stick or CD or uploaded to heiBOX, the University’s file hosting space.

Reading and creating Portable Document Format (PDF):

You can reserve a computer, scanner or reader-printer workstation for a maximum of three hours per day. For reservations, turn to the information desk.
Good knowledge of the offered application software is required. The superintending staff can not help to compile or format texts or files.
The following scanners at the Multimedia Centre can be used by all library users:
- Scanners to digitize microforms (digital reader-printer)
- flatbed scanners
- slide scanner (ektachrome, e.g.)
- 1 Scan Snap overhead scanner
You can reserve a workstation for a maximum of two hours per day. To reserve a workstation, please turn to our staff at the information desk. In our Reading Room and the Neuenheim Branch we also provide planetary book scanners.
In the Multimedia Centre we offer reader-printers to remagnify microforms digitally. You can also store the images on your USB-Stick or CD-ROM. Single pages can be printed at the Multimedia Centre for a small charge.
You can order microforms at the Multimedia Centre desk (phone number 54-2573) if you wish to use them.
Orders which are placed Monday – Friday before 12:00 can be collected at the Multimedia Centre the same day from 14:30. If the order is placed after 12:00, it is available from 10:30 the following day. Orders placed Friday after 12:00 or during the weekend are available on the following Monday from 10:30.
Laptop / Wireless LAN
Students and staff of Heidelberg University can use WLAN on their laptops at the Multimedia Centre. A valid student / university staff member card is required. All library users can access WLAN on their laptops anywhere in the library. Library card holders can use computers in the Information Centre and the Reading Room to access the internet.
Digitization of records
Records can be digitized at the Multimedia Centre with a USB-record player. If you wish to use it, please contact our staff at the information desk and bring a USB-drive.
