Inhalt: In der Grundvorlesung werden grundlegende Ideen und Begriffe aus der Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie und der Statistik vermittelt. Dabei werden zunächst diskrete Wahrscheinlichkeitsverteilungen diskutiert (insbesondere in Verbindung mit Kombinatorik) sowie später dann auch stetige Verteilungen (wobei auf die an sich hierfür notwendige maßtheoretische Fundierung in der Grundvorlesung verzichtet wird). Eine wesentliche Rolle in der Grundvorlesung spielen auch Zufallsvariable. Die Methoden werden dann verwendet, um exemplarisch spezielle statistische Modelle (z.B. lineare Modelle) und Verfahren (wie z.B. Likelihood-Quotienten-Tests) zu behandeln.
Inhalte: Bedingte Wahrscheinlichkeiten und stochastische Unabhängigkeit, diskrete und stetige Verteilungen, Zufallsvariable, Kenngrößen wie Erwartungswert, Varianz und Kovarianz, multivariate Normalveteilungen und Hauptkomponentenanalyse, schwaches Gesetz der großen Zahlen, zentraler Grenzwertsatz, bedingte Verteilungen, lineare Modelle, Regressionsanalyse, Varianzanalyse, Maximum-Likelihood-Schätzer, Likelihood-Quotienten-Tests.
