Abstract

Hermann Schapira (1840-1898) war zunächst Rabbiner, studierte im reiferen Alter Mathematik in Berlin und Heidelberg. Er habilitierte sich 1883 in Heidelberg und lehrte dort als Privatdozent und ab 1887 als a.o. Professor. Sein Hauptinteresse galt den Co-Funktionen und der algebraischen Iteration. Der italienische Aufsatz geht auf eine Gedenkrede zurück, die Moritz Cantor 1898 im Heidelberger Mathematischen Verein hielt.
