| Content | "Church Castles" is a documentation about fortified churches within their cemeteries, lasting since 2003 and, ofthe territory of Baden-Württemberg, completed in 2011. It was done as a reconnaissance by photo-documentation of that what?s left. A list of the included objects, within the borderlines of districts and communities of today, is present as PDF-document (in German) and is updated regularly. Only a few of the former "Church castles are still in that good manner, that you will see curtains with battlements and loopholes, the church tower itself equipped with, or a gate house or tower present. If so, the number of pictured taken of is frequently higher, respectively. In most cases there are only remnants of the curtain, the tower or a gate house left. There also a lot of Romanesque founding present, of which you can see in some of their altered matter their true origin, the extreme at the other end of the scale is a total replacement in concrete. |
| Characteristics / specifics | Primarily the focus is on the fortified parts, like the curtain, towers, battlements, loopholes and so on, but also, if given, old parts of the nave, used as a remnant in a later replacement will be honored. Special Details on the matter, the "protecting heads" of relief figures in stone, gothic tracery, grave stones with impressive crests or engraved sculptures at all, just to name some examples, are present too. In fact, there is something for everyone who is already interested in history and architecture. About the Area of Baden-Württemberg there are four parts present, which offer the historic background of these time, and also additional description of architecture details.
